Live streaming for teaching educational content using Free & Open Source Software (FOSS)

With global lock-downs in place, a lot of people are taking to online teaching, or live streaming and video conferencing for other reasons. This was a live stream to introduce the OBS live streaming software, which can be used for online teaching as well as other streaming and live conferencing. Everything used in this live stream is open source (and therefore free in all senses). At the end of the live stream (and subsequent video) you will be able to use OBS for basic live streaming.

Please note that this is a live stream, and it is best to skip past the wait time at the beginning.

There is no doubt that the Free and Open Source Software (FOSS) policy of the South African government has been a colossal failure, yet another victim of the Zuma years. One wonders, now that we are moving beyond the Zumafication years, with massive corruption and state capture, whether our FOSS policy can be rekindled. Perhaps it could be in the context of the Fourth Industrial Revolution (4IR), where free and open thinking could have a positive impact on our ability as a nation to claim some of the new technology developments. It need not be just software, free and open can apply to anything.
